A stone pathway and marble stairway lead you to Dhanush. A blend of Scandinavian and Victorian influences mark the store’s airy interiors. Dhanush, started last month by Shashikala and husband Rajesh, is meant for the leisurely shopper, thanks to its friendly "sitdown" atmosphere. This unusual flavour spills over to the ensembles as well. The run-of-the mill does not find space here.
In that sense, mass appeal has been replaces by exclusivity, where each outfit is a one-of-its kind piece. Which is why the couple started operations in the quiet premises of their in Jayanagar II Block — far away from the shopping hubs. Dhanush is a place where you can browse, without having a pesky salesman breathing down your neck. Shashikala waited till her child grew up, before setting out on her own. After a cource in gemmology, she put her skills to use by designing gemstone sets. Her USP? "Each piece is made to order. Since we directly source our gemstones from all over the world, we offer them at reasonable prices," she explains. Rajesh has a passion for colour, which he owes to his parents (his father ran a textile business and his mother has an eye for colour). Coupled with that, he is also an interior designer. Since they decided to offer Indian wear, their store came to be known as Dhanush.
There are unusual salwar sets, some of which have been created by their in-house weavers. Shaded tones, a combination of crepe and georgette, unusual tussars and ethnic hand-wovens are worth checking out. "We focus on party wear and the accent is on embroidery and fine detailing," they explain. The jute and matka silk blends are as attractive here as the crepesalwars in geometric and floral prints. In all, the range begins from Rs.1,500. However, the store also appeals to youngsters, with its small section of cotton-silk salwars, some of which suit casual wear and are priced at Rs.545.
The sarees are mindblowing, especially the kanjeevarams, which begin from Rs.4,000. Colourful kundan stones with imported gold zari threads enrich some saris, while others are embellished with antique zardosi work. Swarovski crystals add to the glamour on some. A range of evening wear saris are crafted with designer blouses. apart from the offbeat colour, even the chamki work is subdued and is only seen along the borders.
Dhanush has several working women and youngsters among its clientele. There have been instances when the couple has even helped brides with their footwear and other accessories. In that sense, they are open to working within budgets.
If all goes well, they will soon showcase their collection through a fashion show. Right now, the duo has made a beginning in a small way, but their market is niche and very focused.
There is a 20 pecent discount on the clothes and the offer is on till stocks last.
